Summer Solstice: Basking in the Light

Guiding Light

At the height of the sun’s journey, we’re invited to
shine fully, love boldly, and grow freely.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, when the sun reaches the highest point in the sky.  It’s a time when many cultures honor the sun, celebrate the light, and give thanks to the fullness of life.

Light is a symbol of truth, consciousness, growth, and clarity.  Summer invites us to pause and fully receive life’s abundance.  To bask in the light means to really soak it in by being fully present with a sense of gratitude.

It’s also a good time for a mid-year check in.  Celebrate the progress you have made, but also notice where things might need a little more attention.  Maybe you’ve been focused on your spiritual growth and haven’t spent enough quality time with loved ones.  Or maybe the beginning of the year was all about productivity and workflow, and you need some time to simply be.  Summer solstice is the perfect reminder to do exactly that.

Here are some simple, meaningful ways to bask in the light, both literally and spiritually:

  • Meditate with the rising or setting sun.

No apps, memberships, or subscriptions required.
Just a one-time investment to a lifetime of inner peace.

  • Take a nature walk without any distractions.

  • Practice “sun breathing”:  Close your eyes and take deep, slow breaths under the sun. Inhale light, exhale tension.

  • Journal using summer-related prompts, such as: How can I embody more light —within myself and in the world?

  • Eat seasonal summer fruits and veggies! Think: melon, peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, berries, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, bell peppers, leafy greens, and fresh herbs.

  • Watch a beautiful sunset with people you love.

  • Celebrate your mid-year progress and express gratitude for how far you’ve come.

  • Read lighter books. Not everything has to be a deep dive. Check out the book club’s summer book pick! Light, but meaningful.

Heartfelt, hopeful, and quietly profound—it’s just right for readers who want a story that’s both uplifting and soul-stirring.

Whether you choose to soak up the sun physically or embrace its deeper spiritual meaning, this moment reminds us to celebrate growth, practice gratitude, and embrace the pure light within. Shine bright this solstice!
