Spring - The Season of Renewal

Spring Fever

Sweep the space & Live with grace.

Spring-cleaning has long been a tradition in all our lives, sparking memories of frenzied mothers cleaning out the clutter in our disorganized homes and fathers holed up in the garage doing God knows what.  I have memories of my mom going through my closet, and donating clothes that no longer fit, or finally getting to that junk drawer in the kitchen that was constantly getting jammed.  Now that I’m a mom myself, I realize the spiritual connection of Spring-cleaning and why it’s such a meaningful time of rebirth and transformation.

This Spring Equinox, with daylight shifted later in the day, brings with it a sense of energy.  It feels like an invitation for fresh air and movement, whereas winter feels like a time to enjoy the warmth of home life.  With renewed energy, this seasonal shift truly feels like a symbolic fresh start.  Some cultures believe that Spring is the true start of the new year (such as Hindus, Balinese, and Persians). These cultures use this seasonal shift to reflect on the universal theme of new beginnings, cleansing, and harmony with nature.

With renewal and cleansing in mind, here are some springtime rituals and habits, that embrace this vibrant season:

·      Exposure to morning light - Bright morning light is essential for resetting your circadian rhythm, synchronizing it with the natural light-dark cycle. This process supports a healthy sleep-wake pattern, enhances alertness, and promotes overall well-being.

·      Detox & Cleanse – Drink warm lemon water upon waking. Herbal teas like ginger and peppermint are also a nice addition.  Eat more plants & stay hydrated throughout the day!

·      Spring Cleaning – Clear clutter & Open windows.

·      Plants – you don’t have to have a green thumb to care for a plant or two, and some plants have the added benefits of purifying the air of your home, such as spider plants and peace lilies.

·      Sunlight – Take your dog for a walk, get some vitamin D, exercise outdoors, and listen to your favorite music or walking meditation to boost your mood!  It’s a win-win!

·      Affirmations - Speak your beliefs and desires aloud.

·      Aligned action – Move forward in a way that feels purposeful and authentic, feeling a natural rhythm, rather than forcing things.  Use your values and inner wisdom to guide the action in a way that is true to yourself.

·      Gratitude – There’s a reason I end every meditation with a visualization for something or someone I am grateful for.  Science has shown that gratitude practices have profound benefits for both mental and physical health.  The Spring Equinox is a powerful time to practice gratitude, as it represents balance and growth.  Whether you write it, think it, or say it out loud, gratitude is THE attitude!
Each Pure Light meditation closes with gratitude, a beautiful way to gently return, filled with serenity.  Join one of our meditation programs to learn to meditate on your own (without having to commit to an ongoing subscription and membership) and awaken a daily sense of deep gratitude.
